Walking Tours of Scottsboro – Saturdays in June 2008 in downtown Scottsboro, AL. A traditional State event that allows visitors and history buffs to explore participating communities' historical areas.  Starts at 10 a.m. at the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center and is led by a different community leader each week. No charge.

Stevenson Depot Days  –Downtown Stevenson, AL – June 10-15, 2008 Estimated attendance for this event is 15,000. The Depot Days is an old-fashioned festival that celebrates its railway heritage with parades, ice crème social, pioneer breakfast, a street dance, story telling, clogging, museum tours, and other period entertainment.  The festival also features the Pro Lawnmower Racing, Alabama Bug Jam, Free concerts and much, much more. 4th Annual Summer Latino Festival – June 28, 2008 On the lawn at Northeast Alabama Community College and Tom Bevill Lyceum from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m., Powell, AL – Featuring Live Entertainment, Arts & Crafts, Soccer Skills contest, numerous children’s activities, delicious Latino food, free soft drinks & ice crème, piñatas, and much, much more. 21st Annual Sand Mountain Gospel Music Festival – Tom Bevill Lyceum, Powell, AL (On the campus of Northeast Alabama Community College) – Featuring the best gospel music groups in the South. Admission charged.

Scottsboro’s First Monday Arts Sunday - “Arts in the Park” – Sunday, August 31, 2008 - King-Caldwell Park, Scottsboro, AL. Over 150 artisans and craftsmen from all over the southeast and southwest participate in a juried show and offer their artworks and crafts for sale. Children’s activities and musical entertainment available. A variety of food and beverages will be offered. First Monday Weekend Trade Days – Estimated monthly attendance for this event is 7,500. It is held every month at the Jackson County Courthouse Square in Scottsboro, AL. (See dates below) First Monday is one of the Deep South’s oldest and largest trade days where bartering, haggling, and swapping of goods has not passed on with time. It is a true blend of antique shows, craft fairs, and rummage sales. Spring Fling-Junior College Golf Tournament – March 13, 14 & 15, 2008 at Goose Pond Colony, Scottsboro. See the best young golfers from around the nation compete for recognition as the team to beat in May when most of them come back to Goose Pond to play for the National Championship. 14th Siege of Bridgeport Re-enactment – March 28 - 30, 2008 - The undisputed largest re-enactment in Alabama. Bridgeport brings history alive when over 1,500 re-enactors thrill thousands of curious visitors and history buffs with their authentic re-creation of this fateful battle of the Civil War. Off Broadway Plays – Presented by The Theatre Department of Northeast Alabama Community College. Last two weekends in April. A spring play or musical is just another benefit of having the creative talent and facilities of the Tom Bevill Lyceum at Northeast Alabama Community College. Admission is $5.00. Native American Festival – May 3-4, 2008. One of the earliest known habitations of Native Americans and Alabama’s only National Monument Russell Cave near Bridgeport, AL hosts their annual Native American Festival from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day. Bring your lawn chair or blanket for the storytelling and dancing. Other demonstrations of early living and arts include: pottery making, Cherokee encampment, flute music, archery, flint napping, woodcarving, and many other activities for all ages. Scottsboro Fly-In –May 9-10, 2008 - The aircraft scheduled to appear includes: American Airlines DC-3, Yak-52’s and CJ-6, Warbirds, Numerous Homebuilt, Ultra-Light and Personal aircraft, Possible Military Aircraft Displays. Vendors will be provided for food and beverage for the public.  The public is invited to walk around all of these aircraft and to talk to the pilots.

Annual Catfish Festival – Saturday, May 17, 2008 at County Park in Scottsboro.  A great hometown festival will include a catfish tournament for the adults, catfish rodeo for kids, a real working shrimp boat from the coast-“Miss Foley”, arts & crafts show, Car Show, Free Concerts.  Admission. McDonald's Big Bass Splash – Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Waterfront Tackle and Grill in Scottsboro. One of the oldest and most prestigious Amateur Bass Tournaments in Fishing History. This even takes place on beautiful Lake Guntersville. Alabama Ballet Summer Residency – July 19-27, 2008 at Gorham’s Bluff in Pisgah, AL. 17th Annual Jackson County Rescue Squad Rodeo – July 26-27, 2008 at 8 p.m. each day - AL Hwy. 35, Scottsboro, AL. 34thAnnual Section Labor Day Festival – September 1, 2008 - Section Community Park (one block off of Hwy. 35), Section, AL, Musical entertainment all day featuring Gospel, Blue Grass, Country, and good ol’ Rock & Roll. Free Children’s games and rides. Lots of food including Homemade Ice Crème and Bar-B-Que. Also, volleyball, horseshoes, dominoes, and a “Back Seat Drivers Contest”. 8th Annual Frantic Frog Triathlon – Saturday, September 6, 2008 - Goose Pond Colony off AL State Highway 79, Scottsboro. Several competing categories include: individual, team, Clydesdale, Athena, and Master. Entry fee to participate – Admission free to supporters and spectators.  Major courses include a 400m Swim, 24K Bike, and 5K Run.

Old Timer’s FestivalRosalie, AL, Highway 71. September 6, 2008 beginning at 10 a.m. - Take a few steps back into the past and experience quilting, corn grinding, blacksmithing, broom making, whittling, shingle making, Native American demonstrations, and period musical entertainment. Admission is Free.

Jackson County Fair – September 15-20, 2008 - Veterans Park Fairgrounds, 220 Cecil Street, Scottsboro – Musical Entertainment and Family Fun nightly, gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission charged: 7 years & older. Full carnival rides, contests and exhibits featured for agriculture, crafts, food, photography, animals, 4-H clubs, and much much more.

7th Annual Ole Timey Craft & Bluegrass Festival – September 13, 2008 from 9-6. Paint Rock Valley Lodge & Retreat, County Road 9, Estill Fork, AL, Bluegrass & country music all day. Country & Cajun food and fixin’s include pinto beans & cornbread, barbeque, and Cajun low country boil.  Step back into the past with demonstrations of basket weaving, broom making, blacksmithing, Native American crafts, leather products, wood carving, pencil art by Joseph Vick, Civil War Re-enactment, and other guns, coins, and knives on display. 15th Annual Trial of Tears Commemoration and Motorcycle Ride – September 20 - Starts in Chattanooga, TN and ends in Waterloo, AL. This commemorative ride goes through Scottsboro on Alabama Hwy 72. For more detailed information visit www.trailoftearsremembrance.org or www.al-tn-trailoftears.net.

11th Annual Bridgeport Jubilee – Downtown Bridgeport near Soulard Square and the historic depot and museum. Join in the entire day of family fun as Bridgeport celebrates its present to help preserve its historical past. Be a part of the patriotic decorated bike and tricycle parade at 1:30p.m. You might be a winner. There will be musical entertainment throughout the day including blue grass, gospel and local pickers and singers. Also food vendors, silent auction, arts & crafts, bingo, antique car show, motorcycle show, children’s games, and historical storytelling with re-enactors. 4th Annual Crow Mountain Hill Climb – October 4-5, 2008 - Jackson County Road 33 between Scottsboro & Stevenson, AL off of U.S. Highway 72.  A nationally sanctioned Sports Car Club of America event located in the Appalachian mountain setting of Jackson County. Drivers from around the U.S.A. compete in their prized Formula 1 Autos on hairpin curves and scenic drives. Spectators Admission: $5 per car/truck load.  For info: Chamber of Commerce, 407 E. Fall Festival – October 25, 2008 beginning at 5 p.m. - Cathedral Caverns State Park, Woodville, AL. Featuring spooky cave tours, Games for the kids, Haunted hay rides and food and drinks. For info: (256) 728-8193.

Heritage Day Festival – Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center, Scottsboro, AL. Historic demonstrations include making dulcimers, 19th century cabin living, creating primitive tools, broom-making, chair caning, using herbs, blacksmithing, and lap-quilting.  Several exhibitions of music from the past will include Celtic and Native American instruments. Native American demonstrators will use authentic techniques and materials in the making of tools, medicine, cooking, use of animal skins, basket making, toys and games, and primitive fire making. Admission $1-Student, $2-Adult.
